Miromoda – the Indigenous Maori Fashion Apparel Board hosts its annual Fashion Design Awards Competition over Queens Birthday Weekend and in just three years has added an extra special event to its 2011 calendar.

“We have received our first international entry to our competition here in Wellington, leading up to our third showcase event at Auckland’s NZFW in August. Then we’re included in a touring NZFW fashion show over September and October, as well as a special Miromoda Fashion extravaganza event as part of the REAL New Zealand in September in Wellington in late September,” explains Project Coordinator, Terina Cowan.

On the back of an impressive and only second Miromoda Showcase at NZFW last year that Fashion editor for the Dominion Post, Carolyn Enting rated top show of the week, Miromoda has since worked with the REAL New Zealand Festival team to prepare an indigenous fashion Extravaganza show on the eve of France vs Tonga (Sat Sept 31) and NZ All Blacks vs Canada (Sun Oct 1).

Cowan says the REAL New Zealand Festival event is a comprehensive and robust event that includes pre show dinner packages, a Kakahu (traditional Maori Cloak) exhibition, a trade event featuring high end Maori product as well as corporate tables where Maori wine and food will be served.

The general public will also be catered for with general seating tickets also being available, once ticketing packages are finalised.

“2011 is a huge year for Miromoda, but we’re buoyed by the exciting opportunity it provides to make an indigenous fashion statement and exploit our contemporary uniqueness .. in a good way that is,” admits Cowan.
